Joe Daly...And the Snarling Face of Modern "Progressivism"

.
.
.
This is for all the folks who STILL believe Liberals/"Progressives" are "the worker's friends."

Uhhh, they're NOT.

This is also for all those who thought the extension of the Zadroga Bill was going to take care of those sickened at Ground Zero in the wake of 9/11.

Not so much.

In the wake of 9/11, 26 cancers and most lung ailments were considered "presumptive," 9/11 illnesses.

"Presumptive" means that the victims DO NOT have to prove the etiology of their afflictions, the city must prove they were due to other causes.

Sounds like a bunt...perhaps, in the eyes of critics, a "boondoggle," right?

Look, you're dealing with government here. They're the originators of the bait and switch. Maybe a lot of people have forgotten how "Progressive New York City" treated the firefighters afflicted with various cancers in the wake of the 1975 Telephone Company fire. Perhaps, many never even heard of that ordeal.

In the wake of that fire, in which hundreds of FDNY firefighters were exposed to toxic PCBs and became afflicted with various and rare cancers, from brain cancer, to germ cell cancer, etc., at first, the City denied any causal link between cancer and PCBs. Then they argued that those afflicted mustn't have used their breathing protection properly.

The City doggedly fought those battles as evidence mounted against them, finally settling with a handful of survivors in the late 1980s and early 1990s. THAT is why Unions fought for the "Presumptive" status for lung illnesses, heart problems and cancers.

In NYC, they have a delusional Progressive at the helm. I say "delusional" because this guy tried to run for President on the same platform he snookered the voters of New York with, which roughly goes, "Even though I'm a Marxist, white dork, I have a black son...get it black son, black son. Did I mention I have a black son?"

It didn't work.

Proving once and for all that the rest of the country's voters AREN'T as dumb as New York City's.

Anyway, back to the Zadroga Bill and the tale of Joe Daly, the firefighter who came down with liver cancer, got a liver transplant (you CANNOT get a liver transplant if the doctors believe the damage is alcohol related), then bladder cancer, then colon cancer...and has been denied a 9/11 disability pension based on the city's view that his cancers are alcohol related...in short, New York City is claiming Daly's cancers stem from his "drinking too much beer."

This, despite the fact that Daly was never flagged for drinking on duty, never classified as an alcoholic and thus cleared for a liver transplant on those grounds. He had, according to reports, signed himself into the FDNY's Counseling Unit, after 9/11 over his own concerns that he was drinking more after those attacks, like hundreds of others. The years immediately after that disaster brought on a lot of trauma (physical and emotional) to many who worked there.

What about the courts, you might ask?

Well, earlier this month, Supreme Court Justice Katherine Levine ordered the city to give Daly a full, tax-free disability pension, asserting that the FDNY Medical Board’s denial “lacked a rational basis and was arbitrary and capricious because (they) undiscerningly accepted the Medical Board’s recommendation, which was based on cherry-picked evidence.”

The city's response?

What courts?

DeBlasio's New York City has yet to move forward with the order and is instead considering an appeal!

When Progressives see money, they see pet programs, in this case like the "Thrive" program Chirlane McCray has run...and which has been unable to account for nearly a BILLION DOLLARS of the funds earmarked for it! (https://www.nytimes.com/…/nyr…/thrivenyc-mental-health-.html)

For the City's part, the Law Department says, “We've defended the expert medical board’s decision as legally correct,” despite there not being an oncologist on that board, according to attorney Jeff Goldberg.

Joe Daly's wife, Dana recalled that when they went to the FDNY Medical Board to review his case, one of the board members fell asleep at his desk. She remembers slapping the table to keep everyone awake.

Funny story, while they KNOW where that money earmarked for "Thrive" went (rabbit hole #2?), they DON'T believe the Zadroga money should be earmarked for those ill from the effects of Ground Zero. I guess their thinking is, "Why waste good money, on sick and dying people?"

So, children, THAT is the snarling face of modern Progressivism. If you've overlooked modern Progressivism's impact on Atlamta, Baltimore, Chicago, Detroit, Houston, New Orleans and California (now home to a quarter of America's homeless), PLEASE, let this one sink in.

If you think Joe Daly is a "one-off," or a special case, you're wrong.

If you're a first responder, construction worker, or civilian volunteer and get sick, you better count on getting an attorney, because you're going to have to fight for those "Presumptive Illness" designations.

The city wants that money badly...and they DON'T intend on using it for a bunch of sick people.
