"Amateur" Athletics and Its Antiquated Feudal System...

California has done a LOT of things wrong. It's led the nation in confiscatory tax rates, an oppressive gasoline tax, horrific social policies, but its recent move, allowing College athletes to profit from their images (ie. endorsing products, signing autographs, etc.) ISN'T one of them. (https://www.latimes.com/…/college-athlete-endorsement-deals…)

The recent CA. bill doesn't have Colleges paying student athletes, as many mistakenly think. It merely allows kids to make money off their own images in outside endeavors (ie. signing autographs, having their images on video games, endorsement deals, etc)

College sports SHOULDN'T exist.

They've served as an unofficial, unpaid minor league for decades.

The schools make a mint off athletes (in football and basketball) who SHOULD HAVE a paid minor league system.

College sports and the "student athlete," are anachronisms born in the early 20th Century. They were already obsolete by the 1960's. Colleges SHOULDN'T be in the sports business. They SHOULD be solely in the education business.

The best players only choose College because they've had to.

THANKFULLY, there are now Developmental Leagues and International Leagues, so today's players don't have to get abused by these institutions any more.

These kids were NEVER offered an education. As far back as the 50s people used to joke about College athletes "majoring in basket weaving." College sports is a scam in which workers (the athletes) are abused by wealthy, powerful institutions. Until and even through today, College sports has been a feudal system in which the serfs (athletes) make money exclusively for these greedy institutions that STILL refuse to share any of those proceeds.

Big time College sports is a corrupt machine. It made money off these players and has usually given them nothing in return.

It's existed as a non-paid minor League.

Folks who don't get this, should read about Steve Prefontaine (the last great American distance runner), who waged a non stop war with the AAU & NCAA until his untimely death in 1975 at the age of 25.

The NCAA has created a feudal system, in which workers (athletes) aren't paid.

A scholarship that rarely allows these kids to pursue a degree in 4 years is NOT compensation.

People arguing that universities should keep the BILLIONS made through College sports, are like those who side with BILLIONAIRE owners, over MILLIONAIRE players.

If such people want to know the REAL enemies of the worker, the TRUE supporters of worker exploitation are, all they need is a mirror.

A "free education" ISN'T compensation, at all in line with the value big name athletes bring to schools.

Those BILLIONS in revenues should be split 50/50 and NOT with all 'student athletes' but the ones who bring in that cash.

The money brought into Duke University by Duke Men's Basketball should legally have at least half going to the Duke Men's Basketball team. Zion Williams, RJ Barrett, etc brought that money in.

College sports SHOULD return to the unwatchable TRUE student athletics, the accounting major who "sometimes" shoots hoops, the pre Med students who enjoy a rousing game of pigskin on a Saturday.

Sure, it WOULD NOT BE televised and the schools would not make money off that product, but the REAL athletes could play in paid minor leagues in football, basketball, etc. that would be televised.

Sports fans WOULD watch Developmental League games with the likes of Zion and RJ if those players had to spend say 2 years in the minors before playing in the major leagues.
