One dictum goes, “In a democracy, the people get exactly the kind of government they’re willing to accept,” while another goes, “We’ve met the enemy and he is us.”
A similar, albeit more optimistic sentiment is expressed in this quote;
"Our Republic can survive Barack Obama, but it's less likely to survive the multitude of fools that made him their president" (Anonymous)
So, Just who are those fools?
Well, amidst the purported “good news,” in recent articles that trumpet the fact that a majority of middle class Americans see the Obama agenda as a wrong direction for America, a substantial number STILL seem to agree with that disastrous agenda, one often described as a “Jimmy Carter on Steroids” kind of agenda.
While that erosion of support is touted in articles like the one below, the fact remains that STILL, 46% of those earning between $24,000/year and $60,000/year think the Obama administration is “doing a good job.” 44% of those earning between $60,000/year and $90,000 year feel the same way.
So, while the erosion of support is welcome news, the numbers supporting an agenda that seeks to punish large industries, small businesses and high-earners (those who create virtually all new jobs) should be recognized as a very troubling one.
Middle Class Abandoning Obama

“Less than half of middle class Americans now believe that President Barack Obama is doing a good job, according to a new Gallup Poll.
“Among those earning from $24,000 to $59,988 a year, just 46 percent say they approve of the job Obama is doing, down from 51 percent in May and 66 percent in the week of his inauguration.
“Among Americans earning $60,000 to $89,988 a year, 44 percent approve of his job performance, down from 51 percent in May and 69 percent during inauguration week.
“The only income bracket in which a majority still approves of Obama’s job performance is those earning less than $24,000 a year — and only 52 percent of them approve.
“Overall, 46 percent of Americans told Gallup they approve of Obama’s job performance during the week of June 7-13, tying for the worst week of his presidency.”
So, yes, the middle class may be abandoning Obama, but hardly fast enough.
The Fatal Flaw of the “Cloward-Piven Strategy”
Much has been written about the vaunted “Cloward-Piven Strategy,” one where an economically socialist, politically fascist government will be foisted upon the USA by means of “overloading the entitlements system until a complete financial collapse occurs. That collapse is then used as proof that ‘Capitalism can’t work’ and presto chango...socialist utopia.”
As a cautionary note and not to put too fine a point on all this, but the “Cloward-Piven Strategy” (such as it is), is fatally flawed in both its underlying premise and its unrealistic expectations.
First, if such an overload were to result in a financial collapse, it would only prove that the regulated economy (the regulated market, Corporatism, or “Crony-Capitalism” that’s existed in the U.S. since 1912) DOESN’T WORK! Since it’s already been proven that “Socialism doesn’t work,” via the collapse of the USSR, China’s economic resurgence since abandoning the Command (government-run) economy and adopting a market-based one, this “overload collapse” would argue for a return to the bare-knuckles, anything-goes free market Capitalism the U.S. had from 1789 thru 1911...the economic system that responsible for America being transformed in that relatively short period into a global economic powerhouse.
So that’s the fatal flaw with the underlying premise.
The even more fatal flaw (if anything can be “more fatal” than “fatal,” is in its naïve expectations, best expressed in the well-worn phrase, “Kittens don’t fu*k cats.” An outcome best proven in both Russia post-1917 and Germany post-WW-I. In both cases the naïve utopianists (which in the budding USSR included the likes of Kerensky and Trotsky) were purged, expunged, liquidate...KILLED by the far more ruthless and LESS utopianist Josef Stalin.
In post-WW-I Germany, the same dynamic occurred, the naively utopianist German communists were eradicated by the far more ruthless and far less utopianist Adolph Hitler and his Leftist, National Socialists.
So, ironically enough, those who put their faith in this cock-eyed utopianist strategy, devised by two ivory towered pseudo-intellectuals, not only is its PREMISE (that a complete financial collapse generated by “overloading an entitlement system” will provide the “proof” that “Capitalism can’t work,”) wrong, but its expectation (that these meek, modern-day “philosopher-kings” will rise to “put things right”) is equally, if not even more horrifically wrong, as history shows that NEVER (never ever) do the meek (and especially the naively meek) inherit anything. They always and everywhere rightfully become the bridge that tyrants tread over.
In short, there is no pot of gold at the end of the Cloward-Piven rainbow, which is why the fact that STILL at this late date, over 40% of middle class Americans support the Obama agenda bodes very poorly for the future of this Republic.
