A well worn but priceless photo and email...

This one's been around for a few days, but it's still a classic, BOTH the picture and the soldier's email!

The serviceman who took the photo writes:

"This is a true story...Check out this photo from our mess hall at the US Embassy yesterday morning.

"Sen. Kerry found himself all alone while he was over here. He cancelled his press conference because no one came, he worked out alone in the gym w/o any soldiers even going up to say hi or ask for an autograph (I was one of those who was in the gym at the same time), and he found himself eating breakfast with only a couple of folks who are obviously not troops.

"What is amazing is Bill O’Reilly came to visit with us and the troops at the CSH the same day and the line for autographs extended through the palace and people waited for two hours to shake his hand. You decide who is more respected and loved by us servicemen and women!

"If you needed a reminder, John Kerry told a group of students in October that they better get an education or they would “end up in Iraq,” insinuating that our soldiers, airmen, seamen and Marines are uneducated."

You've got to love the American Military personnel, they sure don't suffer fools gladly!

Hey JMK,
Look at the picture more carefully. There is a huge BRITISH flag in the background. Is that a visit to British troops in Iraq? Maybe thats why. There are other pictures that show Kerry having lunch with American troops. Oh, and if you missed it, there is a new poll that came out yesterday, showing that the majority of men and women serving in the military do NOT approve of Bush's war policies. Check it out, it was from CNN. Anyway, nice blog. Happy new year!

If true, that would beg the question of why JFK felt compelled to visit British troops for his photo op rather than our own soldiers.

I could take a pretty good stab at an answer, though.

Thanks for checking the site out and for the thoughtful and thought-provoking comment BW...I'm not saying that every soldier supports the war in Iraq, though I would say that a huge majority of those in the Military are very Conservative (a fair number even more Conservative than I am and some as Libertarian, or more than Barry).

Though the case can be made that that also depends on which sectors of the Military you're looking at.

I'll concede that the pilots and Special Forces members tend to be far more individualistic and thus often far more Conservative and in many regards far more Libertarian (scaling down government spending), etc.

It's been noted that the more populous support staff are less Conservative than these guys, then again there are few among us who aren't less Conservative than the most individualistic among us.

That's a fair point Barry, and the email claims Kerry was not very popular there (that WOULD make sense given the "or you'll end up in Iraq" comment), although the emailer IS an "O'Reilly fan," (me too), but that's probably fodder for the other side to claim an innate anti-Kerry bias on the part of the emailer.

Still I heard very little about Kerry's visit there and have seen less (except this) and I've seen tons of footage of O'Reilly's visit courtesy of BO'R.
