The reason so many support individual gun rights is NOT primarily to, "Defend against a rogue government," but because they're so often used in defense against criminals.

Police are NOT there to stop crime, nor to defend victims from crimes, which is why all local governments are indemnified against "failure to protect citizens," no matter what the circumstances, no matter how crime-ridden the area is.
