Liberal Redistributionist Loses His “Missing Pants” Case

Roy L. Pearson, the Liberal, Democrat redistributionist, who sees business as “the enemy,” lost his ridiculous law suit against Washington D.C.’s Custom Cleaners yesterday.

In deciding the case, District of Columbia Superior Court Judge Judith Bartnoff ruled that "A reasonable consumer would not interpret 'Satisfaction Guaranteed' to mean that a merchant is required to satisfy a customer's unreasonable demands" or to agree to demands that the merchant would have reasonable grounds for disputing, the judge wrote.

Judge Bartnoff further ordered Mr. Pearson to pay the court costs of defendants Soo Chung, Jin Nam Chung and Ki Y. Chung, estimated to be slightly over $1,000. A decision on their legal costs, a significantly larger sum, will be held later.

Pearson, an administrative law judge, originally sought $67 million from the Chungs, claiming they lost a pair of trousers from a blue and maroon suit, then tried to give him a pair a pair of charcoal gray pants that he said were not his.

Judge Bartnoff wrote that Pearson failed to prove that the pants the dry cleaner tried to return were not the pants he taken in for alterations.

Pearson later dropped demands for damages related to the pants and focused his claims on signs (“Satisfaction Guaranteed”) in the shop, which have since been removed.

Conservatives would do well to make Roy Pearson the face of the Kos-Huffpo-MoveOn Liberal nexis.

The “Father of Climatology” calls Global Warming Hooey

The UW-Madison professor emeritus, who stands against the scientific consensus on this issue, is referred to as a global warming skeptic. But he is not skeptical that global warming exists, he is just doubtful that humans are the cause of it. Reid Bryson, known as the father of scientific climatology, considers global warming a bunch of hooey.

Bryson contends that there is no question that the earth has been warming. It is coming out of the "Little Ice Age," he said in an interview this week.

"However, there is no credible evidence that it is due to mankind and carbon dioxide. We've been coming out of a Little Ice Age for 300 years. We have not been making very much carbon dioxide for 300 years. It's been warming up for a long time," Bryson said.

The Little Ice Age was driven by volcanic activity. That settled down so it is getting warmer, he said.

Humans are polluting the air and adding carbon dioxide to the atmosphere, but the effect is tiny, Bryson said.

"It's like there is an elephant charging in and you worry about the fact that there is a fly sitting on its head. It's just a total misplacement of emphasis," he said. "It really isn't science because there's no really good scientific evidence."

Even at UW Madison, some of his colleagues disagree. Galen McKinley, an assistant professor of atmospheric and oceanic sciences at UW-Madison disagrees with Bryson, whom she notes is a respected researcher and professor with a long history at the university.

"There are innumerable studies that show that the shoe fits for global warming, I guess you could say, and the human causation for it," McKinley said.

Reid Bryson was the founding chairman of the department of meteorology at UW-Madison and of the Institute for Environmental Studies, now known as the Gaylord Nelson Institute for Environmental Studies. He retired in 1985, but has gone into the office almost every day since. He does it without pay.

Professor Bryson contends that reporters will often call the meteorology building seeking the opinion of a scientist and some beginning graduate student will pick up the phone and say he or she is a meteorologist, Bryson said. "And that goes in the paper as 'scientists say.'"

The word of this young graduate student then trumps the views of someone like Bryson, who has been working in the field for more than 50 years, he said. "It is sort of a smear."

Bryson said he recently wrote something on the subject and two graduate students told him he was wrong, citing research done by one of their professors. That professor, Bryson noted, is probably the student of one of his students.

"Well, that professor happened to be wrong," he said.

"There is very little truth to what is being said and an awful lot of religion. It's almost a religion. Where you have to believe in anthropogenic (or man-made) global warming or else you are nuts."

While Bryson doesn't think that global warming is man-made, he said there is some evidence of an effect from mankind, but not an effect of carbon dioxide.

For example, in Wisconsin in the last 100 years the biggest heating has been around Madison, Milwaukee and in the Southeast, where the cities are. There was a slight change in the Green Bay area, he said.

The rest of the state shows no warming at all.

"The growth of cities makes it hotter, but that was true back in the 1930s, too," Bryson said. "Big cities were hotter than the surrounding countryside because you concentrate the traffic and you concentrate the home heating. And you modify the surface, you pave a lot of it."

Student Denied Education Degree Over MySpace Pix

Think again.

Stacy Snyder, a twenty-seven y/0 senior at Millersville College in PA was denied the education degree her grades and test scores earned, the day before her scheduled graduation for “unprofessional conduct.”

The “unprofessional conduct” in question was a picture posted on her MySpace Account with Ms. Snyder wearing a pirate hat and drinking from a plastic cup, captioned “Drunken pirate.”

Millersville College awarded her an English degree instead.
Instructors who’d previously evaluated “outstanding,” now called her “incompetent.”

Stacy Snyder had to file a federal lawsuit, alleging that by denying Snyder her degree without a hearing regarding the decision, Millersville administrators violated Snyder's constitutional right to due process. Snyder's suit requested her education degree, her teaching certificate, and $75,000 in compensatory damages as relief. It appears to have worked: Federal district court documents filed last Tuesday indicate an out-of-court settlement between the parties is imminent.

Sadly, Stacy Snyder's story isn’t at all that uncommon. Increasingly, university administrators are monitoring student speech and activity online.

As a lawyer for the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education wrote, “While students may think their MySpace.com or Facebook.com posts are private, they aren't. Saying the wrong thing online - even if it’s legal or even constitutionally protected - can get you in a world of trouble.”

"I feel bad because I would have gotten in if I was white," said Nikita, and she’s right. Nikita took an entrance exam to get into Mark Twain Middle School IS 239, a magnet school for gifted students and scored and scored a 7Unfortunately due to a 18 974 Consent Decree, which ordered the school’s “desegregation,” 40% of the seats were reserved for minorities and 60% for whites.

In May, the Education Department sent her parents a letter that said Nikita was not accepted - even though white students who scored lower on the same test were admitted.

School officials told the Raus that because Nikita is classified as a minority, she would need to score at least 84.4 to be accepted, while white students needed to score 77 or more.

Her mom, Dr. Kanchan Rau, said that when she discussed the disparate treatment with Schools Regional Enrollment Director Paul Helfman, "he said, 'I agree with you: It's not right; it's not fair - but there's nothing I can do.' "

Kanchan Rau said Nikita reacted with "surprise and shock" after being told her skin color was keeping her out of the school.

Marriage as Hate-Speech Case Filed with US Supreme Court

The Pro-Family Law Center has challenged Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and United States District Court rulings finding the terms "marriage," "natural family," and "family values" to be hate-speech. The case involves the threat of termination of employment by the City of Oakland against two of its employees who used such words on an employee bulletin board.

John Barrasso Replaces Craig Thomas in Wyoming

Wyoming Governor Dave Freudenthal (D-WY) named the replacement for Senator Craig Thomas (R-WY) who died June 4th of Leukemia. The man who'll replace Senator Thomas (a former Marine Captain) will be Wyoming surgeon and fellow Republican, John Barrasso.

Upon his appointment, Barrasso left no doubt that he'll be a Conservative voice in Washington. "I believe in limited government, lower taxes, less spending, traditional family values, local control and a strong national defense," said the orthopedic surgeon and State Senator from Casper, Wyoming.

Is al Qaida in Iraq on the Run?

According to the Associated Press, fighting between U.S. forces and al-Qaida and allied militants intensified Wednesday in Baghdad and on all four points of the compass around the capital. To the south, suspected Shiite militiamen bombed three Sunni houses of worship in what may presage a war of the mosques.

An Associated Press reporter in Baqouba, the capital of Diyala province to the north and east of Baghdad, reported intense gun battles in the streets and around the main market district as American and Iraqi forces sought to clear the city of al-Qaida fighters.

Gen. Abdul-Karim al-Rubaie, an Iraqi military commander in Diyala, told the AP that security forces had ringed the city and were not letting anyone come or go. He said many al-Qaida fighters had hidden their weapons and were trying to flee Baqouba.

"We fear that the insurgents want to mingle with civilians. ... Citizens have given us the names of hundreds of al-Qaida elements who have quit fighting and are hiding in their houses in Baqouba. These people are going to be arrested after the end of the battles," the general said.

And there are still some Americans who naively believe “We are NOT fighting al-Qaida in Iraq.”

FactCheck.org Gets It Wrong

Now I like Factcheck.org as much as the next guy, but sometimes they just get things wrong, like their wrong-headed analysis of John McCain’s statement that President Bush's tax cuts have increased federal revenues. They claim, “But revenues would have been even higher without them.”

Sadly, this analysis is all WRONG!

It’s surmises that people (especially higher income people) would NOT defer their incomes, as they do when income tax rates rise.

That presumption can NEVER be made.

In fact, the reverse CAN BE surmised, because “PEOPLE ALWAYS RESPOND TO INCENTIVES” and lower/higher tax rates are incentives.

In short, though tax revenues would’ve been higher HAD higher income people paid their taxes upfront, without deferring income, THAT would not have happened had tax rates stayed high, as higher tax rates are an incentive to deferring income.

China Tops US in CO2 Production

China’s overtaken America as the world's top producer of carbon dioxide emissions, based on the latest widely accepted energy consumption data, a Dutch research group says.

According to a report released Tuesday by the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency, China overtook the U.S. in emissions of CO2 by 8 percent in 2006. While China was 2 percent below the United States in 2005, voracious coal consumption and increased cement production caused the numbers to rise rapidly, the group said.

"It's an expression of their fast industrial production activities and their fast development," Jos G.J. Olivier, the agency's senior scientist who compiled the figures, said Wednesday. The agency is independent but paid by the Dutch government to advise it on environmental policy.

If only China had stuck to its Maoist agrarian economy, none of this would’ve happened.

Since I forgot to mark Sarkozy’s UMP Party's Parliamentary win last Sunday, I do so now.

Sarkozy's party and its allies won 346 of the 577, or just about 60% of the seats in the National Assembly, which though fewer than the 359 seats the UMP used to have, is still, more than enough to move their agenda forward without encumbrances.

Moreover, it was the first time in nearly three decades that voters returned an outgoing parliamentary majority to power.

"France needs a kick in the derriere," said businessman Emmanuel Dochie de la Quintane, 35, on his way to vote for a Sarkozy candidate in Paris.

Prime Minister Francois Fillon said the right would waste no time in using its majority to "resolutely modernize" France, approving reforms on labor, employment, consumer spending, law and order, universities, immigration and reducing the disruptiveness of strikes.

"We don't want to wait any longer to launch the renovation that the French are calling for," he said. "We will reform, we will renovate, we will experiment with new ideas. ... We will get rid of the defeatism that is suffocating the republic."

A Texas crowd enraged when a vehicle struck a child who darted out into the street killed one of the car’s occupants Tuesday.

Austin police identified the victim as David Rivas Morales, 40. He was killed trying to keep the mob from attacking the car’s driver.

The child was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

It is a “holiday” that tends to be celebrated with a surfeit of drunken violence each year, although it’s hard to figure out exactly why that is.

5-5-5-5-5 Charleston S.C. Warehouse Fire Kills NINE Firefighters

A fast-moving fire in a Charleston, S.C furniture store killed nine firefighters, the largest single loss of firefighter lives since 9/11/01. Five bells rung five times is the New York City Fire Departments way of announcing line of duty deaths.

The Monday blaze broke out in a furniture warehouse. One report states that “More than a dozen firefighters who rushed into the burning furniture superstore knew — or thought they knew — two things: employees were trapped inside and the blaze was small enough to control.”

Firefighters searching for victims and trying to battle the fire picked their way through rows of sofas and mattresses stacked five and six high on racks in the cavernous warehouse, a corrugated-metal structure next to a gas station.

"It was burning everything. As fast as they would put out one side, another hot spot would pop up," said Lesley Broughton, who lives in the neighborhood and works as a clerk at a convenience store near the gutted furniture store. "Then glass started breaking and they told everybody to get back and finally it was just an inferno."

Sadly, a glitch in Charleston’s buildings codes may have played a part in this tragedy. The building had no fire sprinklers and was not required to have them. The fire chief said sprinklers would not have put out the fire but would have at least slowed it.

The cause of the fire Monday night at the Sofa Super Store, and exactly how the men were killed, were under investigation, but officials said arson was not suspected.

One erroneous report stated, “Buildings that contain a lot of furniture are especially vulnerable, because of the wood lacquer, polyurethane foam and other combustible materials that can reach flashover at a relatively low temperature — sometimes within minutes of a fire's outset.”

The highly flammable contents do NOT allow a flashovers to be reached “at relatively low temperatures,” but allows those high temperatures needed for flashover to be reached much sooner.

Store owner Herb Goldstein said in a statement: "All of us at Sofa Super Store are devastated and heartbroken by this tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and loved ones of the heroic firefighters who lost their lives."

A 23 y/o FDNY firefighter from Brooklyn was killed earlier this evening (Thursday, June 21, 2007) after falling from the roof of a four story building in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn (pictured above top) while operating at a fire at that Meserole Street address.

Dan Pujdak of Ladder Co. 146 in Brooklyn was pronounced dead on arrival at Bellevue Hospital after being taken there from the scene of the 5 pm fire. Pujdak, who lived in Queens had been on the FDNY for two years.

Officials say the fire was started by an unattended cigarette.

No one else was hurt in the late afternoon blaze.

Career Bureaucrat From a Semi, Pseudo, So-called "Conservative" administration Calls Out the Conservative Base Over Illegal Immigration

A petulant Michael Chertoff (a man whose always best served by his silence) has decided to smack-down the GOP’s Conservative base.

A nice strategy if you’re an “Open Border Democrat,” or even a Moderate “Cheap Labor” Republican, but it’s certainly not the best way for a so-called "Conservative Republican administration" to reach out to America’s Conservative majority.

“I don't believe Americans in large numbers are going to go pick lettuce,” Mr. Chertoff says.

“What you will see is a major shift of our businesses, certainly the agriculture business, out of the country, and that that is going to be a very, very bad thing,” he says.

Mr. Chertoff also faulted much of the right-wing blathersphere for its opposition to the Senate bill.

“We are fighting a very heavy headwind,” he says, pointing to talk radio as a major culprit.

Lawmakers are being swamped with letters, e-mails and phone calls from constituents with opinions about the proposed changes.

"Senators on both sides are being pounded by talk radio," said Senate Minority Whip Trent Lott, R-Miss., told the Houston (Texas) Chronicle.

As the good folks at Freedomfolks, put it, “Blathersphere? WTF? So I’m thinking they haven’t gotten the memo, the one that suggests not excreting on your supporters heads? Perhaps it hasn’t crossed the border illegally yet?"

Without question, the biggest problem with the failed Bill was that enforcement was an afterthought, at best.

And even a cursory look back at how the last “Amnesty Bill” (the 1986 Bill) worked out proves the legitimacy of the skepticism of the huge majority of Americans who support enforcement first.

Moreover, the “cheap labor” argument is ill-served by the push for mass legalization. After all, once these 12 million illegals become “Americans,” they will be guaranteed the minimum wage, withholding taxes, social security, etc., they will no longer be “cheap labor,” in fact, they’ll be part of that mass of Americans who no longer want to do all those drudgery-jobs, at least for the subsistence wages some employers want to offer for those jobs.

See where that goes?

Amnesty creates the need for ever more cheap labor and ever more amnesty.

Better to focus on going after the rogue employers, from those companies that hire massive numbers of “undocumented workers,” “off the books,” to the homeowner who hires a few workers at a local shape-up. KILL those illicit jobs by heavily fining these employers for first offenses and jailing them for second offenses and the vast majority of the illegal aliens here will self-deport.

The idea that “we need these people to voluntarily come out from the shadows,” is absurd! For one thing, NONE of the criminal aliens, nor potential terrorists here illegally are going to step forward under ANY process. Moreover, a recent Mexican Poll asserts that fewer than 40% of those Mexican nationals in America illegally would want American citizenship even if were offered free, as they remain fiercely loyal to Mexico.

So how is offering something, the majority of illegals don’t even want (U.S. citizenship) going to make those we desperately want out of the shadows (the criminals and potential terrorists, of whom over 90% probably don’t want citizenship) come out and identify themselves?

The short answer is, “It won’t.”

MySpace Crackdown Nets Several Sex Offenders in Texas

Texas Attorney General Greg Abbot (pictured) has been the first Attorney General to go after convicted sex predators for having MySpace accounts.

AG Abbott has been cracking down aggressively on sexual offenders. In May, he subpoenaed MySpace.com and forced the site to release profiles of all registered sex offenders.

In June, police arrested seven sex offenders who have been convicted of indecent conduct with a child, and therefore violated their probation by having a profile on MySpace.

AG Abbot has charged that a MySpace account is no different than a school or playground or other gathering plce frequented by minors and to date, he’s been able to make that stick.

One conviction for a child sex offense should change a predator’s life forever – he/she forfeits their rights for the protection of other children.

In a move that brings at least some degree of “justice” to the Duke Rape Hoax, Michael Nifong decided to resign on Thursday, just a day before the N.C. Panel handed down a decision that implicated Nifong in thirteen ethics violations, the most serious one, withholding the full DNA report from the defense, could bring criminal charges, including perjury charges for highly prejudicial and damning comments he made AFTER he had the DNA report that, in effect, cleared the three Duke LAX players!

In his testimony before the state bar's disciplinary hearing commission, Nifong admitted to making mistakes and said, "It's my intention, whether or not, whatever the decision (of the bar) is to be, to resign as district attorney.”

The Panel itself was withering on Nifong. State Bar prosecutor Douglas Brocker told the committee that as Nifong investigated Crystal Gail Mangum’s allegations that she had been raped and beaten at a March 2006 party thrown by Duke's lacrosse team, he charged "forward toward condemnation and injustice," weaving a "web of deception that has continued up through this hearing."

"Mr. Nifong did not act as a minister of justice, but as a minister of injustice," Brocker said.

The verdicts did not appear to surprise Nifong, who acknowledged during sometimes tearful testimony Friday that he would likely be punished for getting "carried away a little bit" when talking about the case.

Disciplinary committee chairman F. Lane Williamson also hinted during Saturday's closing arguments the three-member panel was likely to conclude that Nifong kept from the defense DNA test results that found genetic material from several men in the accuser's underwear and body, but none from any lacrosse player.

"How can you possibly explain that away?" said Williamson, who repeatedly interrupted Nifong's attorney, Dudley Witt, as he discussed the DNA testing during his closing statement.

"It wasn't just one little oversight," Williamson said later. "This was conduct over an extended period in a very high-profile case."

Despite being aware of those test results, Nifong still pressed ahead with the case anyway and won Grand Jury indictments against Dave Evans, Reade Seligmann and Collin Finnerty. State prosecutors later concluded the three players were "innocent" victims of a rogue prosecutor's "tragic rush to accuse."

Nifong’s attorney claimed Nifong had made "multiple, egregious mistakes" as he pursued the charges, but not intentionally.

In a stunning statement, Nifong's attorney tried to explain away his client's incredibly flawed judgment, "It didn't click," Witt said as he tried to explain one of his client's errors. "His mind is just his mind. That's the way it works. It just didn't click."

Brocker said Nifong had to have known he was making improper comments to reporters. Nifong said he regretted some of his statements, including a confident proclamation that he wouldn't allow Durham to become known for "a bunch of lacrosse players from Duke raping a black girl."

He also focused on when Nifong learned about the full extent of the DNA test results and when he shared that information with the defense.

Nifong gave defense attorneys an initial report on the DNA testing in May 2006 that said private lab DNA Security Inc. had been unable to find a conclusive match between the accuser and any lacrosse players.

But lab director Brian Meehan testified this week that he told Nifong as early as April 10, 2006 — a week BEFORE Seligmann and Finnerty were indicted — about the more detailed test results.

Nifong disingenuously testified that when he gave the defense the initial DNA report, that he "believed at the time that I had given them everything."

The disciplinary hearing committee could suspend Nifong's law license or take it away entirely, however, the players' attorneys have pledged to seek criminal contempt charges next week in Durham.

Nifong’s new-found contrition seems calculated to salvage what he can out of these disastrous (for him) hearings.

He had the multiple and contradictory statements by the accuser (a woman with a history of mental and emotional problems) to the police and the DNA evidence that found no material consistent with any of the three Duke players, but that of multiple others on April 10th – BEFORE the grand Jury hearing that wrongly indicted the three.

Is Schumer’s Vision for the Democrats at Odds With the Soros-Kos Vision?

In his recent book, Positively American, New York’s Senior Senator, Charles Schumer introduces the guiding light of his political vision – the Bailey’s (Eileen and Joe) of Massapequa, Long Island.

The Bailey’s are Schumer’s composite of the great American middle class – the people he grew up with in Brooklyn.

Schumer describes the Baileys, in part, like this, “They are bothered by the corporate excesses they read about in the paper. But they are bothered even more when they read about someone burning the American flag. They feel there is a place in America for large, successful corporations and realize they’re needed – even if it’s an unfortunate fact of life that some CEOs will always go too far. But they are infuriated by flag burners. That hits their emotional chord. The Bailey’s are angered by people who don’t appreciate America and who exploit America’s very freedoms to spit in its face – and theirs. They are skeptical of anyone who defends such people.”

Who goes on, “They believe everyone deserves a fair chance and are sympathetic to those who are less fortunate then they are...but they are not driven by communal goals over self-interest. To them there is nothing wrong with seeking what’s good for yourself and your family. To them, it’s part of the American credo. They believe in charity, but they also see nothing wrong with helping yourself do better.” He goes on, “They are proud of what they’ve done and what they’ve accomplished and they don’t need government to treat them like basket cases. Most of the time, it seems to them that government’s focused on someone else – the very poor, or the very rich. So most of the time, they tune government out.”

Schumer’s vision isn’t about converting the American middle class to Liberalism, in fact Schumer admits, “Democrats were embarrassingly liberal, pathetically liberal, shamefully liberal and liberal for too long,” no, his vision is about “listening to them.”

He refuses to lecture or hector them about their putting personal-interest over “communal values.” He even understands intrinsically the Democrats failure connecting with Americans over national security – when a Senate colleague asked him, “Why don’t they trust us on foreign policy?”

“Us?” I asked.

“Democrats.”

“They?”

“The press, the people.”

“I paused and considered..."I’m not sure they should,” I said.

It seems as though Schumer clearly sees the extreme Left (the "Kos kids" and the Soros-axis) as bigger impediments to a Democratic, then the Republicans are.

Makes sense, given the 2006 Schumer-Emmanuel Plan that had the Democrats recruiting hard-core Conservatives, including former Reagan official Jim Webb, and Evangelical Christian Heath Schuler, among others to run out West and down South.
2006 was a very promising year for the Democrats primarily because they embraced Schumer’s pro-middle class, anti-far Left “flag burners,” agenda.

Will it continue?

Can the Democrats move forward with an agenda that relegates the “Kos kids” to the back burner?

Without it, Schumer warns that the Democrats risking falling back what they seemed to b e after their 2004 defeat – a Party of permanent minority status.

France appears poised to continue its hard lurch to the Right as opinion polls and projections through the second round of voting scheduled for June 16 predict that Sarkozy's Union for a Popular Majority (UMP) and its center-right allies will win over 42% of the vote — under France's proportional representation rules, that would give the President and his allies between 410 and 430 of the parliament's 577 seats.

After promising “No mass legalizations,’ and “No backing away from the scheduled mass deportations,” as well as major revisions to France’s failed welfare state and ill-conceived labor laws (the 35 hour work-week and eight weeks paid vacation may be going by the boards), Sarkozy's popularity seems as high as it's ever been.

Food for thought; if France (FRANCE!!!) is talking mass deportations and refusing to legalize its illegal migrants, then why shouldn’t America take a cue from that?

I mean, after all, the NY Times and other Leftist organs have been begging America to emulate many of the failed French policies. Why not look to emulate one rooted in real common sense and true compassion?

Where They Stand on Illegal Immigration

First, a Clinton appointee judge (U.S. District Judge Sam Lindsay) holds up a Farmers Branch, TX law that bars property owners from renting to illegal aliens, then Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, D-N.Y., proposes allowing more spouses and minor children of legal permanent residents to immigrate to the U.S., by exempting them from visa caps.

The Senate is also considering a bid by Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., to more than double, to 90,000 a year, the number of green cards available for parents of U.S. citizens.

For his part, Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., plans an attempt to phase out the point system that gives little credit for family ties to a U.S. citizen or permanent legal resident.


On Wednesday, May 30, 2007 former Senator, John Edwards said that it's a "hard one" to decide if an illegal working here for one year has a "right" to citizenship, but says "five years, definitely," meaning five years of ILLEGAL STATUS definitely transforms this into a right.

Sen. Harry Reid referred to the 12 million illegal aliens currently in the U.S. as "12 million undocumented Americans."


As bad as the Moderate Republicans are on this issue (and they ARE bad), the Democrats are clearly the real pro-illegal immigrant Party.

Will this translate into votes?

Bill O’Reilly and others think, “Yes,” as poor immigrants will vote for the bigger government, more welfare Democrats.

Call me a cynic, but I’m thinking a sizable percentage of these new immigrants would be swayed by Conservative rhetoric on social issues, BUT why should any of that matter?

It shouldn’t!

The reality is that illegal immigration results in a flood of unskilled labor, driving down the “wage floor” in the U.S., which in turn pulls down other wages as well.

The Democrats can’t claim to be “the Party of the workingclass” when they support the devaluing of American labor.

At this point, ONLY the Conservatives of both Parties CAN.

According to Julie Hirschfeld Davis of the AP, "The proposed immigration overhaul narrowly survived a potentially fatal challenge Wednesday as the Senate turned back a Republican bid to limit the illegal immigrants who could gain lawful status.

"The close vote on a proposal by Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, to bar felons — including those court-ordered to be deported — from legalization reflected the delicate position of the contentious immigration bill, which remains under threat from the right and the left.

The vote was 51-46 against the amendment. Democrats succeeded in pulling support from Cornyn's proposal by winning adoption of a rival version that would bar a more limited set of criminals..."

UPDATE II: The Senate voted 50-45 today to BLOCK a Democratic attempt to "limit debate" and speed this flawed immigration Bill through Congress. That's 15 votes short of the 60 needed to limit debate!

Once again, Conservative Dems Jim Webb and Jon Tester sided with other Conservatives and voted AGAINST limiting debate. As a result the Bill was set aside and the Senate moved onto other business.

As a result, this very flawed Bill may be DOA.

Vermont SECEDES!....From Reality

Now THIS is just too GOOD!

As part of the “battle on corruption,” the GOP has joined in and offered up, that’s right, William Jefferson (D-La).

That’s right, they’re going after a guy who didn’t even take lobbying money from Jack Abramoff (oh wait…the jury’s still out on that too), no, all this guy did was abscond with about $90K of ill-gotten cash and take about $500,000 in bribes and kick-backs. He's facing about 13 ethics violations and a number of potential felony indictments.

The now infamous $90K was cash he'd stashed in a freezer in his New Orleans home.
Funnier still, is that Rep Jefferson took badly needed National Guard services, diverting them form other, vital life-saving rescue work in order to help him move some of his belongings out of that house.

That’s right, during the height of Hurricane Katrina William Jefferson put the value of his own property ABOVE the value of the safety of the people he purportedly represents!

And NOW the GOP has the nerve to look to expel this guy out of the House of Representatives?

Laurie Kellman of the AP wrote, “Republicans moved on Tuesday to seek Rep. William J. Jefferson's expulsion from Congress, a day after the Louisiana Democrat was indicted on charges of taking more than $500,000 in bribes.

“Jefferson, meanwhile, relinquished his seat on the House Small Business Committee before members of his own party could vote to kick him off the panel.

“In a two-paragraph letter to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Jefferson, 60, said he was taking the step "in the light of recent developments in a legal matter." He acknowledged no wrongdoing.”

Republican Minority Leader John Boehner of Ohio has led the push for House resolution specifically instructing the ethics committee to report whether a member's expulsion is warranted. Usually such resolutions leave it to the committee to recommend appropriate sanctions after its investigation.

The unusual directive produced a rare retort from the chairwoman of the House ethics committee.

"It is inappropriate for any other member to impose on these proceedings," Rep. Stephanie Tubbs-Jones, D-Ohio, chairwoman of the Standards of Official Conduct committee, said in a statement that did not mention Boehner by name. "I refuse to allow these proceedings to be politicized by House Republican leadership."

Ooooh! It’s way too late for that Ms. Tubbs-Jones, I'm afraid.

Never has such a force done so much good for society than capitalismIt breeds innovation, wealth, peace and wipes out poverty at a rate and level that socialists could only dream of achieving.And I am sincere when I say that the more and more I think about it, capitalism is the only force that can quelch the insanity of radical Islam and provide the idiot nutjobs an alternative to blowing themselves up in a fruitless attempt to get to heaven. Heck, look how it's converted all of Mao's "devout" followers, not to mention lifted hundreds of millions out of poverty in China. If it can convert communist China, it certainly can provide hope to the middle east, and the UAE is just such a hope.This is an amazing chart, and I truly and genuinely believe that the solution to the problems of the middle east lie here; letting their people and commerce be free to do as they chose, just not blow people up. Additionally I think the UAE in diversifying their economy beyond oil will position themselves to handle the inevitable time when oil becomes either obsolete or depleted splendidly and will, overtime, soon increase their standards of living beyond their Saudi counterparts.

No wonder Halliburton moved there.

I hope this is a spoof blog because you scare me. I hope you are not serious. That is such a narrowminded approach to the issue of religious fundamentalism. And the rest of you, "they're just a bunch of animals". Are you serious? Capitalism will solve the 'problems of the middle east'!!! Can you even identify those problems for people who live there. Have you ever considered that the fear of western ideology and 'capitalism' is vested in the very fear of forced implementation of it. Capitalism as a development-tool the latest two decades has proven to have the very opposite outcome of your predictions. Increased poverty, rich get richer and the poor get poorer as the "trickle down" theory of contemporary capitalist discourse fails to deliver to the majority of the population. The World Bank and IMF, USAID, NED, the main policy instruments of global capitalism, and democracy has often failed to deliver economic and political security or prosperity to people in developing countries. Therefore, I doubt that capitalism will benefit the working class or poor people ( the majority) of the middle east... Hence, more fuel and incentives for fundamentalism directed towards the West. One thing that has to realised is that this has nothing at all to do with religion, it is by large a mixture of political and economic inequality.

Ignorant of successes like China, the US, Ireland and the UAE (which is Muslim and successful and capitalist)2. Lying and just acting like capitalism is a horrible thing because you have a vested interest in the transfer of wealth, namely to yourself.If it's 1, then there is a bevy of information out there that will show you and prove you wrong.If it's 2, why would anybody take you seriously?

It just proves to me more and more people don't want to work and find socialism is a great way to achieve that. The only problem is they have to villainize capitalism and outright lie about its track record.What ANGERS me to no end is the hypocrisy that they use claiming they "care about the poor" when in reality they keep people in poverty just so they can get their free government/non-profit check and feel good about themselves. Africa is a perfect example. 600 million kept poor so a bunch of feel-good do-nothing rich brats in America can feel good about themselves (Live Aid/8 anybody?)

I can attest to the fact that pancake collapses are NOT uncommon in fires. I've seen numerous pancake collapses in vacant buildings, with steel girder supports, impacted by fire.

Is “The Party of Corruption” BACK?

Whether it’s exempting Starkist Tuna (a major Pelosi donor) from the Minimum Wage increase, supporting a veritable amnesty for illegal aliens (a move that will greatly devalue American labor), Harry Reid being involved in a Nevada land scam, or simply stealing money outright (a la William Jefferson, La), there’s nothing quite like a Democratic Congressional scandal.

There’s an admirable lack of shame there.

Kind of like that scene from Other Peoples Money, where Judge Reinholdt asks the foil (dressed as a clown, while holding a gun to his ribs), “What are you doing?”

And the clown responds, apparently much the way many a good Democrat (OK, and a fair number of Republicans too) would, “I’M ROBBING YOU!”

You have to love that abject shamelessness.

Earlier today an indictment charging Rep. William Jefferson, D-La., in a long-running bribery investigation was unveiled by federal authorities.

An AP report notes, "A Justice Department official familiar with the case said the indictment outlining the evidence against Jefferson is more than an inch thick and charges the congressman with crimes that could keep him in prison for up to 200 years. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case."

You might recall that almost two years ago, in August 2005, investigators raided Jefferson's Louisiana home in and found $90,000 in cash stuffed into a box in his freezer.

The case against Jefferson was made by former associates, like Brett Pfeffer, a former congressional aide, who admitted soliciting bribes on Jefferson's behalf and was sentenced to eight years in prison.

Another Jefferson associate, Louisville, Ky., telecommunications executive Vernon Jackson, pleaded guilty to paying between $400,000 and $1 million in bribes to Jefferson in exchange for his assistance securing business deals in Nigeria and other African nations. Jackson was sentenced to more than seven years in prison.

Both Pfeffer and Jackson agreed to cooperate in the case against Jefferson in exchanges for their pleas.

To date, Jefferson has refused to comment on the case, but this is sure to get as messy as it is fascinating.

Who Knew? HPV Vaccine Considered for Males

Although males can’t get HPV-linked cervical cancer caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) virus, they are believed to be half the equation in the transmission of that disease and a new study released three weeks ago, shows that the virus is also a leading cause of throat cancer, which effects both sexes.

Dr. Michael Bookman, director of medical gynecologic oncology at Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia said, "This is a viral infectious process, and the majority of the time it is passed through heterosexual contact. And I think it's important to consider boys as equal players in that process."

"Boys are not as prone to (HPV-linked) cancer as girls, but they are obviously involved in the transmission, and there is some risk of cancer in boys, as well," he added.

No one’s debating the effectiveness of the vaccine, called Gardasil. The shot is targeted against the four strains (out of 15) of HPV that are thought to trigger 70 percent of cervical cancers.

Reporting last week in the New England Journal of Medicine, a team of researchers at Johns Hopkins University confirmed that infection with HPV via oral sex is by far the leading cause of throat cancer, which strikes 11,000 American men and women each year. HPV is also a major cause of anal cancer and genital warts, both of which affect either sex.

The threat of throat cancer is especially troubling, Bookman said, because doctors traditionally only look for these malignancies in long-time smokers and drinkers. "Head and neck exams are more associated with smoking and alcohol and less associated with HPV, although that's changing," he said.

Hmmmm, aside from the most common STDs (Syphilis and Gonorrhea , etc), there's also a wider aray of viral STDs, including AIDS, Herpes, genital warts, cervical and throat cancer via HPV contact...it's a good thing we're dismissing abstinence before marriage, out of hand, as a means to avoiding these plagues.

America’s MSM Defends "Their Side" in the WoT

When the FBI busted the Fort Dix Six a few weeks ago, Keith Olbermann petulantly dismissed the suspected terrorists as “a bunch of morons,” in order to downplay both the significance of that arrest and the domestic jihadist threat.

When Rosie O’Donnell insinuated that the U.S. troops might be the real terrorists; “We invaded their country and 650,000 Iraqis have been killed. Who are the real terrorists?”

Olbermann quickly jumped to O’Donnell’s defense claiming, “It was a clear reference to President Bush,” not our troops.

Really Keith?

Since when did President Bush become plural?

“Who are the real terrorists?”

Now, in the wake of the JFK arrests, Sean O’Neill of Times Online writes, “Thwarting the fanatical, and somewhat fantastical, plans of four middle-aged men can hardly be regarded as a serious blow to the global jihad."
