Detroit, a deep BLUE City, trashed pensions as part of its move toward "fiscal responsibility" (https://amp-freep-com.cdn.ampproject.org/…/a…/amp/759446002…) & (https://mobile-reuters-com.cdn.ampproject.org/…/idUSKCN1232…) and in Houston, Democrat Mayor Sylvester Turner, cut pension benefits, then laid off firefighters after that Local endorsed him in the Mayor's race. How many times are Police and Fire Unions going to let this ANTI-1st Responder Party kick them in the nuts?!
There ARE pro 1st Responder Democrats, Republicans and Independents, although I see none among the leading Democrats. All the more reason why such decisions should be made on an individual, NOT a Party basis.
The BEST thing for cops and firefighters is lower unemployment, which leads to higher tax revenues, as THAT'S what pays 1st Responder salaries, pensions and benefits.
Unions that choose the side MOST opposed to us, are either so incompetent they don't deserve to be in their positions, OR they're selling out the Fire Service for their own personal gain.
I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and go with Grade A incompetence, which means NONE of these guys should be where they are.
Time to clean house.
