For decades now, we've been flooding our most prestigious institutions with the scions of the wealthy and well-connected, regardless of how academically deficient they've been.
The result has been that most of these "Lesser Lights" have gravitated to teaching, often at those SAME prestigious institutions. Perhaps their only defense might lie in what "Dean Martin" the College Dean in Rodney Dangerfield's flick "Back to School" said, "It was an awfully big check!"
At any rate, just in case you were wondering, that's why we have "scientists" who oppose legitimate scientific inquiry/skepticism on everything and "Professors" who politicize every morsel of course material.
