Melissa Harris-Perry (MHP to her followers) is the wrong person to take on the issue of "privilege." Her father was a first-dean of African-American Affairs at the University of Virginia, while her mother, Diana Gray, taught at a community college.
You don't get much more comfortable and 'privileged" than that.
She grew up in the affluent suburban Chesterfield County which has a median family income of $65,058, well above the national average.
Now, as ratings-challenged MSNBC tries to appeal to a broader audience by moving slightly toward the center, MHP has sought to make it "all about her."
I wish I could say that sympathize in some way, but....nope.
