2015...A Landmark Year in Sports

Say cheese! Serena Williams and Patrick Mouratoglou pose for selfies as they arrive at Perth International Airport ahead of the Hopman Cup

In May, with American Pharaoh winning the Kentucky Derby, we witnessed the first Triple Crown in horse racing in 37 years!

Then with Serena Williams winning Wimbledon, we witnessed the oldest tennis triple crown in women’s tennis EVER!

And earlier this month, we saw Mike Trout become the first MLB player to win back-to-back MLB ALL Star Game MVPs!

And...oh year, Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather pit on the highest grossing boxing match...and snorefest in history.

But even in sports, MERIT is constantly under attack!

In the wake of Serena Williams’ dominance some folks took to Twitter and other social media to rant about Serena Williams’...looks!

Some commented things like, “Ironic then that main reason for her success is that she is built like a man.”

JK Rowling, among others jumped to Serena Williams’ defense.

Fact is, most female athletes today are tall (many over 6’), extremely strong and very powerful. ALL of them work incredibly hard to become so and apparently no one has worked harder than Serena Williams.

There are a number of people today who would prefer even our sporting events to “reflect the ethnic makeup of America.” THAT’S NOT merit...it’s something much, MUCH different and it’s nothing worthy of support. MERIT is what makes sports...SPORTS!

As far as Serena William’s looks go, fans can and will love or hate some players for any reason, or even no reason at all. You don’t have to find Serena Williams beautiful...there’s already someone that does (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2895238/Serena-Williams-coach-boyfriend-Patrick-Mouratoglou-cosy-series-selfies-Perth-airport-ahead-Hopman-Cup.html)
