More “Nothing to See Here”

As Michael Moore and the far Left still insist, “There is NO terrorist threat.” It’s not the adherents of “the religion of peace” we have to worry about, according to these folks, but war-mongering Americans.

A July 20th Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Bulletin told Airport security officers around the nation to look out for terrorists practicing to carry explosive components onto aircraft, after four curious seizures at airports since last September.

The unclassified alert was distributed on July 20 by the TSA to federal air marshals, its own transportation security officers and other law enforcement agencies.

The seizures at airports in San Diego, Milwaukee, Houston and Baltimore included "wires, switches, pipes or tubes, cell phone components and dense clay-like substances," including block cheese, the bulletin said. "The unusual nature and increase in number of these improvised items raise concern."

Security officers were urged to keep an eye out for "ordinary items that look like improvised explosive device components."

The four seizures were described this way:

• San Diego, July 7. A U.S. person — either a citizen or a foreigner legally here — checked baggage containing two ice packs covered in duct tape. The ice packs had clay inside them rather than the normal blue gel.

• Milwaukee, June 4. A U.S. person's carryon baggage contained wire coil wrapped around a possible initiator, an electrical switch, batteries, three tubes and two blocks of cheese. The bulletin said block cheese has a consistency similar to some explosives.

• Houston, Nov. 8, 2006. A U.S. person's checked baggage contained a plastic bag with a 9-volt battery, wires, a block of brown clay-like minerals and pipes.

• Baltimore, Sept. 16, 2006. A couple's checked baggage contained a plastic bag with a block of processed cheese taped to another plastic bag holding a cellular phone charger.

  1. It's like this, JMK:

The simplicity of the materiel will be ridiculed as evidence that these are bumbling amateurs - for now.

When we next get hit, the response will be that it's (surprise, surprise) Bush's fault for not getting bin Laden.

Hey, remember I'm an old Dem so I know how I would think and respond (were I still stupid) is the same as theirs!

  2. Well said, Mal. I, too, am a reformed lib, and I see a very tough fight ahead, both with our true enemies, and with a certain group of our own fellow citizens, primarily graduates of Indoctrination U.

They suffer from some sort of delusion that the present Administration is the Third Reich; and that we have somehow become the primary threat to world peace.

Unfortunately, it is very difficult to get through to a fundamentalist, whether they be Muslim or Liberal.

  3. No question Mal, that seems to be the playbook.

Of course, the Dems believe they'd benefit MOST from a second attack on Bush's watch.

Should a Dem get in, they know the public tends to blame the person in office and the GOP would blame "soft on terror Dems" for the attack.

What I really find amusing is the schizophrenic responses - On the one hand, "There is no terrorist threat, while on the other, This administration isn't doing enough to keep us safe.

Mal, I think the chasm between Liberals in your day and Liberals (especially the far Left) today is highlighted by the fact that even Ronald Reagan, one of the most Conservative Presidents in recent memory was "a JFK Liberal."

Today's American far Left would make Joe Stalin blush.

  4. Mick, I feel both yours and Mal's pain.

I can't imagine anyone who came of age in the turbulent 60's NOT being a Liberal back then.

I came of age in the early seventies, in the wake of the worst abuses of the era (Woodstock, the Manson killings, the MLK riots, etc) and that really made a big difference.

In HS, most of the guys I knew already reviled "hippies," while just a few years before, most HS kids almost certainly saw them as cool.

Great quote, "Unfortunately, it is very difficult to get through to a fundamentalist, whether they be Muslim or Liberal," and true.

I'd add that it's not so much the fundamentalists I mind, it's the jihadists of both those groups.

  5. I consider myself a lib, just sooo distant from my "brothers". Their hatred of W is so blinding, they are throwing basic common sense out of the window and don't seem to care if they will be next on the (political or physical) chopping block.

  6. Rachel, you're a principled person and an honest one. I've seen you hold to some "Liberal views" and some that are more "Conservative." I think most people have their ideology spread across the spectrum, like that, but many people don't think for themselves, they look at political issues as a sort of "team sport," rooting for "their side."

    You don't do that.

You make good arguments for your views and maitain an open mind - that's critical thinking.

Often when I say "Liberal" I mean the far Left, like the Moores, Gore's, Sheehan's, the Kos & MoveOn factions, etc.

I try to make that clear and will continue to try, even harder.
