Keith Olbermann steadfastly refuses to take off those red bell bottoms. This time he’s taken to dismissing the latest example of jihad in America as “an attempt by the Bush administration to terrorize Americans with phony threats.”
Hmmmmm, shades of Rosie O’Donnell’s now infamous “Gulf of Tonkin, Google it,” about the British sailors illegally kidnapped by Iran last month.
OLBERMANN: "And one other note today. The ultimate premise of the war in Iraq and the ultimate premise, certainly, of the Republican presidential campaign ahead, counterterrorism. The FBI claims it has broken up a plot to attack Fort Dix in New Jersey. The flaw, though, in the breathless reporting of the purported terror cell, the bureau infiltrated the six-person group after its members took video of themselves practicing with assault weapons, brought the tape to a photo store, and had it transferred to a DVD.
"The details of the supposed plot don't seem to hold together that well either, though that did not stop extensive and entirely credulous coverage on TV, the Internet, in print today. The men supposedly had plans to gain access to the base disguised as pizza delivery guys, then cut the power somehow, they, quote, "hit four, five, or six Humvees and light the whole place, and retreat without any losses." And take the tape of yourselves practicing and have it copied at PhotoMat. In other words, the FBI has arrested six morons."

Uhhhhh, not to put too fine a point on this, but the nineteen jihadists who successfully flew three jetliners into both Twin Towers of the World Trade Center and the Pentagon were also “morons” by Keith’s own definition! At least they were right up through September 10th!
So too was Richard Reid (the “shoebomber”), Jose Padilla, the Lackawanna Six, the members of the Detroit, Potland and Seattle terror cells that were busted...you get the idea.
As the good folks over at Olbermann Watch said, “All we can say is that it requires a special degree of malice to believe that any time a terror attack is successful its the U.S. officials who are the "morons" but when these same officials prevent an attack its just a scam to "terrorize" Americans cooked up by the Bush administration in cahoots with law enforcement officials and "the media" to arrest "morons" who are never a "serious" threat."

All I can say is, “There’s an Olbermann Watch?”
WoW! That really is a public service. Their moniker should be, “We watch him so you don’t have to,” not that many do now-a-days, but it’s a helluva public service anyway.
He's a moron with a schtick that sells. If the six were successful, guess what he would have been b--ching about then?
ReplyDeleteWithout question.
ReplyDeleteHis definition makes every failed terrorist a "harmless moron," while every successful terror attack proves the authorities here to be "morons," in his view - a very protracted, not to mention self-serving viewpoint.
I also get the feeling that if this were a Democratic administration, the likes of Keith would be defending, if not hailing every intrusive measurement used by government.
For Keith it's "Partisanship uber alles."
"I also get the feeling that if this were a Democratic administration, the likes of Keith would be defending, if not hailing every intrusive measurement used by government."
ReplyDeleteand that's what frightens me. As a Democrat, if we do such things, how are we different from what we accused Republicans of when they do wrong?
I think politicians are politicians with few exceptions. Maybe bnot so much bad/evil as weak/avaricious.
ReplyDeleteWhat Bill Clinton did was what lots of unethical people in business and higher education do - they abuse their positions of authority.
I believe the post-war occupation of Iraq has been badly mismanaged. Was it faulty Intel or general incompetence, or some combination of both? I'm not sure which, though I'd think the third, but it's been poorly handled and it's not gone well, by any appreciable measure.
I'd even agree that Bill Clinton was probably a smarter man than G W Bush (just as Gore was almost certainly not as bright as GW), but even Clinton, bright as he was, let the Lewinsky affair distract him from Iraq - he bombed Iraq for a few days in 1998 over the protestation from dems like John Kerry, who wanted more drastic action.
Maybe that's why I can undersand the support for divided government, a government unable to do much, by so many people today. Though in these times, that can be a real liability.
It's also rough that good candidates and I'm thinking specifically of Mike Steele in MD and Harold Ford Jr., in TN get beat in veritable "popularity contests," in which the bulk of their own constitutents fail to support them.
Especially in Maryland, the black community didn't support Steele and even accepted some very clear racial animus employed against him, most likely due to his Conservative views.
I've seen that view inculcated among the Irish, the Italians and Jews - that voting against the Democrat is voting against your own people and it's sad.
I see the same thing today among Blacks, and it's equally sad. I understand the viewpoint and I understand the fear, but it's still sad to see it.
I'm glad you're still around and I really appreciate your views on things, Rachel.
You know the issues and you're an independent thinker. Even when we disagree, you make me think about things....and that's always good.
I don't watch him because he makes my skin crawl.
ReplyDeleteHe makes Imus look like the easter bunny and like Rosie the only ones to call him on his disgusting tirades are the conservative bloggers.
It's like he and his ilk are rooting for one of these cells to win. IE kill Americans, so then they can really get down to brass tacks and BLAME BUSH!

That's the sad thing Jenn, the radicals led by the Soros-Moore axis, has co-opted a large segment of the American Left...and there is little, if any criticism of the Olbermann inanities, nor even the "Truther" insanities, perhaps because even more ratrional, skeptical folks on the Left believe "They're on our side."
The primary problem with that view is that often, those extremists are rooting for the economy to go bad and for Iraq & Aghanistan to go bad, because they mistakenly see that as "good for them" politically.
